These instructions will walk you through restoring a backup copy of your 3.5 migrated Artisan 4.X data onto your computer for testing purposes.<\/p>\n

Install 4.X<\/h4>\n

Our Support Staff will provide you with a link to download the latest Artisan version. Follow the initial installation steps<\/a><\/strong>, then return to this article.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Retrieve the Hardware ID<\/h4>\n

When you open Artisan, you’ll arrive at the “Welcome Screen<\/strong>.” From here, navigate to the dropdown at the top of the screen. Click on “Help<\/strong>” and “About Artisan POS Software<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

This copies an alphanumeric code to your clipboard called the “Hardware ID<\/strong>.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Paste this code into an email to sales@certek.com. We will provide you with a license key. You’ll need this in a later step when reviewing an actual copy of your data that we have migrated for you as a test.<\/p>\n

Send Your Artisan 3.5 Backup to Support<\/h4>\n

The next step is to send a backup of your 3.5 data<\/a><\/strong> to the Support staff. We’ll review and test your data. If you need help creating a backup of your data, contact Support to assist you.<\/p>\n

Experiment with Sample Data<\/h4>\n

Now is a great time to get comfortable with Artisan by experimenting with Sample Data<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Save Your Backup File<\/h4>\n

You’ll receive an email from CerTek that indicates your completed migration. Download the backup file they’ve attached.<\/p>\n

Download PostgreSQL<\/h4>\n

Download the PostgreSQL X.Version Installer, which includes pgAdmin at\u00a0 https:\/\/www.enterprisedb.com\/downloads\/postgres-postgresql-downloads<\/a><\/p>\n

Choose your Operating System and download the installer. Version 9.6 or Version 10 is fine.<\/p>\n

PostgreSQL Installation<\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. On the Next Screen, keep the default Installation Directory and click Next again.<\/li>\n
  2. Keep the default Data Directory, then click Next.<\/li>\n
  3. Make the Password “Artisan” or something you won’t forget. Write it down! You will need this password in another step and later on for maintenance tasks. CerTek staff has a procedure to make everybody’s password unique.<\/li>\n
  4. We recommend leaving the port as 5432.<\/li>\n
  5. Locale : [Default Locale]<\/li>\n
  6. Finish installing. Do not open Stack Builder.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Next Steps<\/h4>\n

    Open Artisan. Choose “Restore from Backup<\/strong>” from the Artisan Welcome Screen.<\/p>\n

    Now, Artisan can create the database when you specify “localhost” as the SQL Database Server Address. The Database name can be whatever you want. In this case, we are calling it “POS”. Click Continue<\/b>\u00a0and a new database is created on this station.<\/p>\n
