They&#8217;ll want to use a &#8220;<strong>Tax Holiday<\/strong>&#8221; exemption type.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-07_15h20_07-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16629 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-07_15h20_07-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"744\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-07_15h20_07-1.png 744w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-07_15h20_07-1-300x125.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 744px) 100vw, 744px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the &#8220;<strong>Tax Exemption Types<\/strong>&#8221; screen, click &#8220;<strong>Add<\/strong>.&#8221; Assign the tax exemption a short name and a long name. You may choose to adjust its order in this list as well by assigning it a different number. Make sure you have the &#8220;<strong>Class<\/strong>,&#8221; &#8220;<strong>Start Date<\/strong>,&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>End Date<\/strong>&#8221; columns on this screen. To add them, right-click and select &#8220;<strong>Configure Columns<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Decide which categories to be exempt from sales tax. If we want all categories to be exempt, we&#8217;ll leave this &#8220;<strong>Exempt Categories<\/strong>&#8221; column set to all. Otherwise, type the category code(s) into this column. Separate multiple categories by commas. In this example, we are excluding just one category from sales tax, our hardware category.<\/p>\n<p>Select a class. In this example, it is &#8220;Holiday&#8221; since it has a period of time it runs for. Select a start and end date for this tax exemption.<\/p>\n<p>Press &#8220;<strong>Save<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A customer wants to purchase a flashlight. The flashlight falls under the &#8220;hardware&#8221; category, so it is included in our Hurricane tax exemption. This is a good way to limit or exclude certain items from tax exemptions. We&#8217;ll select &#8220;<strong>Customer<\/strong>&#8221; for our &#8220;<strong>Class<\/strong>.&#8221; Note that this class does not allow you to select a start and end date&#8211;only exemption types classified as &#8220;<strong>Holiday<\/strong>&#8221; can have a start and end date.<\/p>\n<p>Press &#8220;<strong>Save<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the customer&#8217;s record, click on the &#8220;<strong>Sales Tax Type<\/strong>&#8221; dropdown and select &#8220;<strong>No Tax<\/strong>.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h10_41.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16645 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h10_41.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"657\" height=\"568\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h10_41.png 682w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h10_41-300x260.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 657px) 100vw, 657px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Select which &#8220;<strong>Exemption Type<\/strong>&#8221; applies to them. (Ex. Your company is located in Florida and the customer&#8217;s state is North Carolina. Artisan automatically selected the &#8220;<strong>Out of State<\/strong>&#8221; exemption).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h48_48.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16652\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h48_48-1024x642.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"642\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h48_48-1024x642.png 1024w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h48_48-300x188.png 300w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h48_48-768x481.png 768w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_09h48_48.png 1181w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong><a id=\"multiple-exemptions\"><\/a>Multiple Exemptions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If multiple automatic exemptions apply, the priority is: Out Of State Shipping &gt; Customer-Based &gt; Tax Holiday.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a customer buys a rugged flashlight that is currently tax-exempt under the &#8220;Hurricane&#8221; tax exemption holiday. They are also a tax-exempt customer because they are nonprofit. This item is being shipped out of state, and we have an out-of-state sales tax exemption. So, Artisan will label this sale as tax-exempt for the &#8220;most powerful&#8221; exemption, the out-of-state exemption.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_15h27_49.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16675 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_15h27_49-1024x641.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"818\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_15h27_49-1024x641.png 1024w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_15h27_49-300x188.png 300w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_15h27_49-768x480.png 768w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/2022-10-10_15h27_49.png 1170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 818px) 100vw, 818px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"a-sale-with-at-least-one-taxable-item\"><\/a>A Sale With at Least One Taxable Item<\/h3>\n<p>What happens to a sale with items that are non-taxable and items that\u00a0<em>are\u00a0<\/em>taxable?<\/p>\n<p>For example, a customer wants an item shipped to them out of state. There is another item that they want to take home with them. But, this item does not have a tax exemption tied to it, such as a tax holiday exemption.<\/p>\n<p>Artisan will make note that the customer is tax-exempt for shipping (the yellow &#8220;Out of State&#8221; box at the top of the sale). Next, the item the customer wants to take home with them is added to the sale. Artisan will automatically add &#8220;No Tax&#8221; to that item since the sale is currently counted as an out-of-state exemption.
