This is a detailed article and we go through each step.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-size: 12pt; font-family: helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><b>Printers that would work with these settings are:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Zebra Printers (GC420t and LP2844)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>TSC-TTP-247<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt; font-family: helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">We have not tested this configuration with any other printers, hence we recommend using one of the above. We do not support other label printers for Artisan 4.0 other than the ones listed above.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt; font-family: helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><b><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Step 1: Enable CUPS\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(Common Unix Printing System)\u00a0<b style=\"font-style: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">on the Mac\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">Apple computers do not work the same way as Windows computers do, thus most printer manufacturer&#8217;s drivers won&#8217;t work on the Mac. In order to make a label printer work and be visible on the Mac so Artisan can use it, we need to enable CUPS printing system. You can read more about CUPS at this link https:\/\/www.cups.org<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">In past versions of Apple operating systems, the web administration page was turned on by default, but now it has changed.\u00a0 Starting at Mac OS X Mountain Lion &#8211; 10.8, the web interface is disabled by default settings. In order to enable it, follow the instructions below:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">1. Open the Terminal (Go to Applications =&gt; Utilities =&gt; Terminal)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/terminal.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2088 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/terminal.png\" alt=\"Terminal\" width=\"562\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/terminal.png 562w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/terminal-300x185.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 562px) 100vw, 562px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">2. Type the following:\u00a0<b style=\"font-style: inherit;\">sudo cupsctl WebInterface=yes\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0 then press &#8220;Enter&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/CUPS-terminal.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2081 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/CUPS-terminal.png\" alt=\"CUPS- Terminal command\" width=\"572\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/CUPS-terminal.png 572w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/CUPS-terminal-300x99.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 572px) 100vw, 572px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #333333; font-size: 12pt; font-family: helvetica;\">3. The previous step\u00a0would run only under administrative privileges. Make sure the user logged on has been given\u00a0administrative privileges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #333333;\">4. The web interface for CUPS should now be\u00a0enabled. Go to the web interface where printers can be added,\u00a0to do so go to<\/span><a style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; color: #336699 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/localhost:631\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/localhost:631<\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">. If enable, a similar page t<span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">o the one below\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">should come up<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/CUPS-interface.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2080 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/CUPS-interface.png\" alt=\"CUPS-Interface\" width=\"562\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/CUPS-interface.png 562w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/CUPS-interface-300x195.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 562px) 100vw, 562px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><b>Step 2: Add the printer to CUPS and Mac<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">Now we need to add the printer so we can send raw text (no formatting) to it from Artisan POS 4.X or later<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">1. On the CUPS web interface click on the &#8220;Administration&#8221; tab.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">2. Now from the list of local printers,\u00a0select your printer being installed. Zebra or TSC. NOTE: you will see two instances of the same printer show up on the list, either one will work but choose the instance that starts with the brand name,\u00a0e.g. Zebra\u00a0Technologies&#8230;, TSC&#8230;, etc,.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddPrinter1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2072 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddPrinter1.png\" alt=\"Adding Printer\" width=\"700\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddPrinter1.png 700w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddPrinter1-300x182.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">4. Once the printer is selected, click &#8220;Continue&#8221; and fill out the information about the printer, name and description should be enough. Once you click on continue you may or may not be prompted to select the brand name of the printer. We don&#8217;t want to select any brand, we want to use &#8220;Raw&#8221; for raw text. So from the list look for &#8220;Raw&#8221;. If you are not able to see it. CUPS may have selected another brand automatically so follow the next step below to change it if that is the case and select &#8220;Raw&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/select-raw.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2085 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/select-raw.png\" alt=\"Select-raw\" width=\"700\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/select-raw.png 700w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/select-raw-300x179.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">6. If CUPS detected a brand prefix on the name, it will match it up to its driver, but we don&#8217;t want to use its driver, we want to use a<b>&#8220;RAW&#8221;<\/b>\u00a0setting. If you get the following screen or similar do not select any of the default models instead click on<b>\u00a0&#8220;Select Another Make\/Manufacturer&#8221;\u00a0<\/b>and from the list pick &#8220;<b>raw&#8221;<\/b>. Now a new model will show up on the Model field,\u00a0<b>Raw Queue (en)<\/b>. This is what we want. On the banners screen. Now the printer should be added\u00a0through the CUPS printing system and a confirmation message should be displayed. See below. Go back to the<b>\u00a0Administration<\/b>\u00a0tab in CUPS web interface. This time click on\u00a0<b>&#8220;Add Class&#8221;\u00a0<\/b>under the Classes section.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddClass.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2070 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddClass.png\" alt=\"AddClass\" width=\"700\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddClass.png 700w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddClass-300x116.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. Enter a name for the class. This will show up in Artisan so make sure you include the word &#8220;raw&#8221; in the name to\u00a0differentiate printers. We\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">suggest naming it\u00a0<b>Raw_Brandname_Model,<\/b>\u00a0e.g.<b>Raw_Zebra_GC420c or Raw_TSC_TTP247.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddClass2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2071 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddClass2.png\" alt=\"Adding Class - Choose member\" width=\"700\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddClass2.png 700w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/AddClass2-300x188.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">3. Once the class is\u00a0added, the printer should be\u00a0available to the operating system. A confirmation page should let you know that the class has been added. Before we go into the next step, make sure the printer and class has been created correctly.
