{"id":2417,"date":"2014-12-16T17:07:11","date_gmt":"2014-12-16T17:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/?p=2417"},"modified":"2023-06-13T08:33:05","modified_gmt":"2023-06-13T12:33:05","slug":"start-tsp-printer-setup","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/knowledge-base\/start-tsp-printer-setup\/","title":{"rendered":"Star TSP Printer Setup &#8211; Mac"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This article explains how to setup the Star TSP series printer for Artisan 4.0 on the Mac with or without a cash drawer<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> There are some special configurations that need to be followed for current versions of Artisan 4.0, this article and the procedure itself will most likely change as Artisan finishes beta testing.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Download &amp; install the driver<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">First, we will install the printer using the manufacturer&#8217;s driver as any other regular printer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> Download the driver from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starasia.com.hk\/dl\/driver\/starcupsdrv-3.4.2_mac_20140203.zip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.starasia.com.hk\/dl\/driver\/starcupsdrv-3.4.2_mac_20140203.zip<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">You could also download it from S:\\Install\\Certek Computer Setup\\Printers\\Receipt Printers\\Star\\Mac<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>2<\/strong>. Locate the driver in the designated downloads folder, it should be named &#8220;starcupsdrv-3.4.2_mac&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>3<\/strong>. In the folder, locate the actual driver package to be installed,\u00a0starcupsdrv-3.4.2_mac =&gt; Driver =&gt;\u00a0starcupsdrv-3.4.2.pkg<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/installer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2425\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/installer.png\" alt=\"Installer\" width=\"500\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/installer.png 800w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/installer-300x133.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>4<\/strong>. Connect the Star Receipt Printer at this time<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>5<\/strong>. Double-click on the package to install it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>6.<\/strong> Follow the prompts. It should install and display a &#8220;successful&#8221; message.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/success-installed.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2426 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/success-installed.png\" alt=\"Installation was successful\" width=\"400\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/success-installed.png 400w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/success-installed-300x152.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2:\u00a0Verify printer is correctly installed<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Now make sure the printer has been installed by checking the printers panel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> Open System Preferences<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>2<\/strong>. Select Printers &amp; Scanners<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>3<\/strong>. Look for the Star Printer. It should be already on the list. See image below<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Printer_Ready.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2429\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Printer_Ready.png\" alt=\"Printer is ready\" width=\"500\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Printer_Ready.png 643w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Printer_Ready-300x148.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 3: Set receipt printer in Artisan<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Now, it is time to set it up in Artisan so that it <strong>prints receipts BUT does not open the cash drawer (YET).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1<\/strong>. In Artisan go to Printer\u00a0Configuration (Main Menu =&gt; Tools =&gt; Program Options =&gt; Device Configuration =&gt; Printers)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>2.<\/strong> Configure the Star printer following this image.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Start-Printer-Settings.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2435\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Start-Printer-Settings.png\" alt=\"Star Printer Settings\" width=\"600\" height=\"382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Start-Printer-Settings.png 700w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Start-Printer-Settings-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>3<\/strong>. The most important setting here is &#8220;Printer Model&#8221;, if you will use\u00a0a cash drawer attached to this printer, make sure &#8220;Other Thermal&#8221; is selected as the option.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong><\/span>: If you are not using a cash drawer, you could select &#8220;Star Compatible Thermal Receipt Printer&#8221; for Printer Model; otherwise, MAKE SURE &#8220;Other Thermal&#8221; is selected or it will cause issues in the next steps. Also on the mac you will need to\u00a0delete\u00a0any control string characters from the &#8220;Setup String&#8221; field.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Step 4:\u00a0Disable default cash drawer feature<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If you have followed the steps correctly with the driver, the CUPS interface should allow disabling the cash drawer for the Star printer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> First, try to access the CUPS interface by opening the web browser and going to <a href=\"http:\/\/localhost:631\/printers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>http:\/\/localhost:631\/printers\/<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">If CUPS interface is not enable, you should see instructions on how to enable it by going to the Terminal and typing &#8220;cupsctl WebInterface=yes&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Once it is enabled, then try again going to the address given above.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>2.<\/strong> From the list of printers, select the Star Printer to go into its options<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Select-Star-Printer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2441\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Select-Star-Printer.png\" alt=\"Select Star Printer\" width=\"500\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Select-Star-Printer.png 800w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Select-Star-Printer-300x153.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>3<\/strong>. Go into the &#8220;<strong>Set Default Options&#8221;<\/strong> by going to the drop-down menu<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Star-Default-Options.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2444 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Star-Default-Options.png\" alt=\"Star Default Options\" width=\"500\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Star-Default-Options.png 800w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Star-Default-Options-300x88.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>4.<\/strong> Select &#8220;Cash Drawer Control&#8221; and set it up according to the image below. Make sure Cash Drawer is set to &#8220;Do Not Open Drawers&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Cash-Drawer-Control.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2445\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Cash-Drawer-Control.png\" alt=\"Cash Drawer Control\" width=\"501\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Cash-Drawer-Control.png 795w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Cash-Drawer-Control-300x100.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 501px) 100vw, 501px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>If you are not using a cash drawer with this printer. This would be the last step and you do not need to keep going. Just make sure everything works as supposed to.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Step 5:\u00a0Add <span style=\"color: #222222;\">fictitious<\/span>\u00a0printer for cash drawer<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Since the Star interface does not work correctly yet, and we need to control the printer in different manners, the only option we have available is to create a virtual\u00a0printer through CUPS that allows us to talk to the Star printer and work independently to open the cash drawer. To do this, follow the steps below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0Go to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/localhost:631\/admin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/localhost:631\/admin<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and add a new printer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Create-Printer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2449\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Create-Printer.png\" alt=\"Create Printer\" width=\"500\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Create-Printer.png 800w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Create-Printer-300x118.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>2.<\/strong> Pick the Star printer from the list of local printers, this will let us send commands to this printer even though it is already installed and being used by the OS. Notice there are two instances for the Star TSP on the list. If there are jobs stuck, clear them and make sure &#8220;Other Thermal&#8221; is set for both Receipt and CashDrawer printer within Artisan.<\/li>\n<li>Lastly, test doing a sale.
