{"id":2776,"date":"2015-03-05T20:13:04","date_gmt":"2015-03-06T01:13:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/?p=2776"},"modified":"2023-06-20T11:38:27","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T15:38:27","slug":"epson-tm-t20-printer-setup","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/knowledge-base\/epson-tm-t20-printer-setup\/","title":{"rendered":"Epson TM-T20 Printer Setup &#8211; Mac"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This article explains how to setup the Epson TM-T20\u00a0series receipt printer for Artisan 4.0 on\u00a0a\u00a0Mac with or without a cash drawer<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0There are some special configurations that need to be followed for current versions of Artisan 4.0, this article and the procedure itself will most likely change as Artisan POS finishes beta testing.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 1: Download &amp; Install Driver<\/h3>\n<p>First, we will install the printer using the manufacturer&#8217;s driver as any other regular printer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0Download the driver from<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/download.epson-biz.com\/modules\/pos\/index.php?page=single_soft&amp;cid=4225&amp;scat=33&amp;pcat=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">https:\/\/download.epson-biz.com\/modules\/pos\/index.php?page=single_soft&amp;cid=4225&amp;scat=33&amp;pcat=3<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>You could also download it from\u00a0S:\\Install\\Certek Computer Setup\\Printers\\Receipt Printers\\Epson\\Mac\\TM-T20II_MacDrv_12a<\/p>\n<p><strong>2<\/strong>. Locate the driver in the designated downloads folder, it should be named &#8220;TM-T20II_MacDrv_12b&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3<\/strong>. Connect the Epson Receipt Printer at this time<\/p>\n<p><strong>5<\/strong>. It may not be added to the Mac system automatically so we need to do it manually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0Open System Preferences<\/p>\n<p><strong>2<\/strong>. Select Printers &amp; Scanners. You may have the Epson already installed, if so move on to <strong>Step 3: Set receipt printer in Artisan<\/strong>. If not then follow this section.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> You will see window similar to the one below. This steps finished the installation of the printer. It is time to set it up in Artisan POS.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/EpsonPrinterAdded1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2799\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/EpsonPrinterAdded1.png\" alt=\"EpsonPrinterAdded\" width=\"500\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/EpsonPrinterAdded1.png 664w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/EpsonPrinterAdded1-300x163.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 3: Set Receipt Printer in Artisan<\/h3>\n<p>Now, it is time to set it up in Artisan so that it\u00a0<strong>prints receipts BUT does not open the cash drawer (YET).\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1<\/strong>. In Artisan go to Printer\u00a0Configuration (Main Menu =&gt; Tools =&gt; Program Options =&gt; Device Configuration =&gt; Printers)<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong>\u00a0Configure the\u00a0Epson\u00a0printer following this image.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/EpsonArtisanSettings1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2801\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/EpsonArtisanSettings1.png\" alt=\"EpsonArtisanSettings1\" width=\"500\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/EpsonArtisanSettings1.png 682w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/EpsonArtisanSettings1-300x144.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>3<\/strong>. The most important setting here is &#8220;Printer Model&#8221;, if you will use\u00a0a cash drawer attached to this printer, make sure &#8220;Other Thermal&#8221; is selected as the option.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong><\/span>: If you are not using a cash drawer, you could select &#8220;Epson Compatible Thermal Receipt Printer&#8221; for Printer Model and this would be your last step; otherwise, MAKE SURE &#8220;Other Thermal&#8221; is selected or it will cause issues in the next steps.<\/p>\n<p>Again,\u00a0If you are not using a cash drawer with this printer. This would be the last step and you do not need to keep going. Just make sure everything works as supposed to.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Step 4:\u00a0Disable Default Cash Drawer Feature<\/h3>\n<p>If you have followed the steps correctly with the driver, the CUPS interface should allow disabling the cash drawer for the Epson printer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0First, try to access the CUPS interface by opening the web browser and going to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/localhost:631\/printers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>http:\/\/localhost:631\/printers\/<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If CUPS interface is not enable, you should see instructions on how to enable it by going to the Terminal and typing &#8220;cupsctl WebInterface=yes&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Once it is enabled, then try again going to the address given above.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong>\u00a0From the list of printers, select the Epson Printer to go into its options (Click on it to select it)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DisableCDOption.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2802\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DisableCDOption.png\" alt=\"DisableCDOption\" width=\"500\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DisableCDOption.png 979w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DisableCDOption-300x92.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3<\/strong>. Make sure Cash Drawer is set to &#8220;Do Not Open Drawers&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/CDNoOpen.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2804\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/CDNoOpen.png\" alt=\"CDNoOpen\" width=\"499\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/CDNoOpen.png 749w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/CDNoOpen-300x111.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Step 5:\u00a0Add F<span style=\"color: #222222;\">ictitious<\/span>\u00a0Printer for Cash Drawer<\/h3>\n<p>Since the Epson interface does not work correctly yet, and we need to control the printer in different manners, the only option we have available is to create a virtual\u00a0printer through CUPS that allows us to talk to the Epson printer and work independently to open the cash drawer. To do this, follow the steps below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0Go to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/localhost:631\/admin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/localhost:631\/admin<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and add a new printer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Create-Printer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2449\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Create-Printer.png\" alt=\"Create Printer\" width=\"500\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Create-Printer.png 800w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Create-Printer-300x118.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong>\u00a0Pick the Epson printer from the list of local printers, this will let us send commands to this printer even though it is already installed and being used by the OS. Notice there are two instances for the Epson printer\u00a0on the list. Select the one that starts with the actual brand, &#8220;Epson&#8221; in this case, although this does not really matter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/AddEpsonCUPS.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2806\" src=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/AddEpsonCUPS.png\" alt=\"AddEpsonCUPS\" width=\"500\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/AddEpsonCUPS.png 864w, https:\/\/certek.com\/kb4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/AddEpsonCUPS-300x92.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong>\u00a0Name this printer to\u00a0differentiate it from the actual Epson printer already in the system. (Remember this will only be used by the cash drawer) so we recommend to add -CashDrawer to the name already in the box.
