This article explains how to setup the Star TSP series printer for Artisan 4.0 with or without a cash drawer<\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong> There are some special configurations that need to be followed for current versions of Artisan 4.0, this article and the procedure itself will most likely change as Artisan finishes beta testing.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Step 1: Download & install the driver<\/h3>\n

First, we will install the printer using the manufacturer\u2019s driver as any other regular printer.<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Download the driver from\u00a0http:\/\/www.starmicronics.com\/support\/default.aspx?printerCode=TSP100<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0<\/strong>Make sure you\u00a0click<\/strong> on \u00a0futurePRNT V5.50 Lite<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(119 MB) to start the download.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3.<\/strong>\u00a0Locate the driver in the designated downloads folder, it should be named \u201ctsp100_v550_lite<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0<\/strong>Right click on\u00a0\u201ctsp100_v550_lite<\/strong>\u201d then select Extract All,\u00a0<\/strong>then select Browse\u00a0<\/strong>on the next window that prompted, after that\u00a0then select the destination folder where you like to save the extracted item(s) and hit ok<\/strong> then hit Extract.<\/strong><\/p>\n

5<\/b>.\u00a0In the folder, locate the actual driver package to be installed, then double click on Autorun\u00a0=> Run\u00a0<\/strong>just as the image below displays.<\/p>\n

6. <\/strong>Now you will see the TSP100 star<\/strong> printer installation Menu, hit Installation=>Accept =>YES to allow PC changes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0<\/strong>When the Set up wizard is launched hit NEXT<\/strong> and follow on screen instructions to finalize install, once done you will get a InstallShield Wizard Completed Successfully<\/strong>, hit Finish. (See Image Below).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Step 2:\u00a0Verify printer is correctly installed<\/h3>\n

Now make sure the printer has been installed by checking the Control Panel \/ Devices and Printers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0<\/strong>Click on Start icon on the task bar.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Select Devices and Printers .<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong>\u00a0Now make sure your Start TSP 100 Shows up under Printer and Faxes.\u00a0(See Image Below)<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 3: Set receipt printer in Artisan<\/h3>\n

Now, it is time to set it up in Artisan so that it prints receipts BUT does not open the cash drawer (YET).<\/strong><\/p>\n

1<\/strong>. In Artisan go to Printer\u00a0Configuration (Main Menu=>Tools=>Program Options=>Device Configuration=>Printers)<\/strong><\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Configure the Star printer following this image.<\/p>\n

3<\/strong>. The most important setting here is \u201cPrinter Model\u201d, if you will use\u00a0a cash drawer attached to this printer, make sure \u201cStar Thermal\u201d is selected as the option.<\/p>\n

Step 4: Setting Cash Drawer in Artisan<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1<\/strong>. Go back to Artisan Device Configuration Screen<\/p>\n

Set a printer on slot 3\u00a0named \u201cStar Receipt Printer\u201d using the fictitious printer we just added on CUPS<\/p>\n

When asked whether or not to use this printer for Sales Slips & Coupons<\/strong>, select \u201cYes\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Set the Cash Drawer using this printer 3, also add the Control String to Open Drawer: <7><\/p>\n

Follow the image below.<\/p>\n

Save your settings. Everything should work correctly.<\/p>\n

Things to test:<\/h3>\n

      \n
        \n
      • Test printing a receipt from the Receipt Printer \u201cTest\u201d button<\/li>\n
      • Test opening the cash drawer from the Cash Drawer \u201cTest\u201d button<\/li>\n
      • Make sure there are not jobs stuck in any queue. If there are jobs stuck, clear them and make sure \u201cOther Thermal\u201d is set for both Receipt and CashDrawer printer within Artisan.<\/li>\n
      • Lastly, test doing a sale. It should print a receipt and open the drawer too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n
