“Punch Card” Loyalty Club

Contents

Artisan’s Loyalty Club feature is a great way to reward your customers with discounts and promotions. You can utilize this tool further to create specialized clubs, such as “Punch Card” clubs.

It used to be common for cashiers to hand customers a punch card, which they could present at the next visit. After the card was punched a certain amount (ex. 5 or 6 visits), the customer would be rewarded with a special discount to use for their next purchase.

Instead of having customers remember to bring their card or cashiers rifling through punch cards in a filing cabinet, you can create your own type of punch card loyalty program right in Artisan. This is done by creating a special “pack” loyalty club, such as a four pack, which we’ll show in our instructions.

Setting Up Punch Cards in Artisan

Head to “Customers” and “Loyalty Clubs.”

Create a new record by selecting “Add A New Record” or “F3” on your keyboard.

In order for this club to work properly, we are basing our club based on the number of sales the customer makes.

In the “Club Name” field, fill in a name such as “4-Pack” (based on the number of sales you are requiring the customer to make).

Determine if you want this club to apply to all of your shoppers or only a select group, and if you want only customers who have a certain keyword in their customer record. You can also select if you want this to only apply when a specific item is bought. In our example, we are not limiting our scope to any customers — all shoppers who hit the threshold, described below, will receive the coupon.

For every sale the customer makes, they will earn one point. Again, you can limit these sales to only certain items, categories, and other thresholds if necessary. We are not requiring our customer to present an ID or changing them to a different Customer Type, but you can add this if you wish.

For our loyalty club, we will be issuing a 10 percent discount for every 4 points the customer earns. In this case, the “points” equate to “sale.” Once they hit the threshold (ex. 4 sales), they will be rewarded with their coupon.

Change “Coupon Amount Type” to “Percentage of Club Amount.”

Optionally, you may include a message that will print (ex. “Thank you for being a loyal customer”). Select the coupon form to print on. This is usually “Coupon Thermal.”

If you want to set a range the coupons will expire after, enter the number of days. Save your club.

    Example

In this example, a customer has made four purchases.

Artisan will trigger a coupon after this fourth sale and keep record of it in the “Coupons” section.

From “Accounting,” head to “Credits, Coupons, and Gift Cards.”

    Select “Tracked Coupons.”

    The coupon is recorded here.
