Log Out When Idle

If configured, Artisan will log out of the current user after a certain period of inactivity. If the user is in the middle of something, such as entering a sale or editing a customer record, Artisan will remember that and return to that screen once the user has logged in again.

Note: A similar setting is Artisan’s “Exit When Idle” option. When configured, Artisan will close out entirely instead of logging a user out. However, Artisan will ask before closing out if there are any unsaved changes. Click here to learn about this setting.

Setting Up “Logout When Idle”

From the “Program Options” screen, click on “Users and Security Settings.”

Expand the “General Security Options” screen.

Look for the “Log Out When Idle for” field. This can be set for both Strong Users and Other Users. Strong users are Owners and Managers, Medium users are Supervisors, and Weak users are Clerks Level 1 and 2.

You may change the log out time by entering a different number (ex. “15” for 15 minutes). If you wish to disable “Logout When Idle,” input a 0.

Example

Let’s say we have an Owner set to log out after 5 minutes of inactivity. The Owner started working on a purchase order but had to leave the station. Artisan will detect the five minutes of inactivity, log the user out, and exit to the Log In screen.

The user will need to log back in to continue editing the purchase order (notice that the purchase order screen is grayed out in “Open Screens“).
