Updating vs. Upgrading – What’s the Difference?

Updating Artisan simply means moving from the current version that’s installed on your computer to the latest version (ex. version .91, .92, .93, etc). Upgrading Artisan means moving from one major version to another, like 4.6 to 4.7, or 4.7 to 4.8, etc. Upgrades require a license key from the Sales or Support staff.

You can always see what version you’re currently on by looking at the upper left side of your screen:

In this example, we’re on version 4.8.93.

You can always check the latest Artisan features and fixes by visiting our “What’s New” article. Select the “Help” dropdown and “What’s New?

This article provides the latest up-to-date details about Artisan, even though your version might be older. This is a great way to see what is coming in case you’re looking for a bug fix.
