Connecting to QuickBooks Desktop

Contents

This article introduces you to connecting Artisan POS to QuickBooks Desktop by means of Intuit Interchange Format (IIF) files exported from Artisan and imported into QuickBooks Desktop. This method can also be used to import into QuickBooks Online via a third-party program like Importer GURU.

For QuickBooks Online in Artisan POS 4.9.225 or later, see Connecting to QuickBooks Online instead.

Importer GURU supports general journal transactions, but does not support importing Bills Due into QuickBooks Online. This means you can’t use it to export Vendor Invoices or Consignment Payout Statements from Artisan.

This article is part of a series on using Artisan with External Accounting Programs, such as QuickBooks. For the full series, see Working with External Accounting Software.

With Intuit’s continued push to phase out QuickBooks Desktop and move users to QuickBooks Online, you should be aware that support for QuickBooks Desktop will be increasingly limited, and discontinued in 2027. Here’s what we understand at this point:

    • Intuit plans to continue to sell and support QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise edition.
    • Other editions of QuickBooks Desktop are no longer available for sale (as of September 2024) from Intuit or from third parties.
    • Support for QuickBooks Desktop (except the Enterprise edition) will end in 2027.
    • Existing QuickBooks Desktop subscribers can continue to renew their licenses annually until then.
    • You can upgrade existing QuickBooks Desktop installations to QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise (but it’s considerably more expensive). https://quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop/enterprise/buy-online/
    • You can switch to QuickBooks Online. Intuit provides a migration process to move your existing QuickBooks data. https://quickbooks.intuit.com/online/move-to-online/switch-to-quickbooks-online/

Here’s CerTek’s position on support for using QuickBooks with Artisan POS:

    • The interface between Artisan POS and QuickBooks Desktop should continue to work as before for the foreseeable future.
    • CerTek has completed a new QuickBooks Online Connector, which supports all the features of our QuickBooks Desktop Connector (or the closest equivalent in QuickBooks Online). This will be released as soon as Intuit completes their review.
    • Until the QuickBooks Online Connector is fully available, CerTek will provide assistance in using Importer GURU with Artisan and QuickBooks Online. After that, we strongly encourage you to upgrade to the latest version of Artisan and switch to the QuickBooks Online Connector. Importer GURU will continue to work with IIF exports from Artisan, but Importer GURU help will no longer be included in Artisan support plans.
