Delete a print job – Windows

If you need help on an Apple Macintosh computer, please read this article: Delete a print job – Mac.

The Problem

There are times when printers seem to be working fine, but the file never prints because there are tasks stuck in the queue that do not let others print their files. There are different ways to clean the queue from your system, but we are going to show the most efficient method.

Steps

In order to check or clear the printer job queue on a Windows machine, do the following:

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key + R

keyboard

2. A new window should pop-up. This is called the “Run” prompt. Type: control printers and select the “OK” button.

3. The printer screen will show all printers this computer has connected to. Right-click on the printer you’d like to delete jobs for and then select “See what’s printing.”

4. A new window will open that shows current printer jobs. If this is blank, then the printer does not have any jobs. On this window, select “Printer” on the top left corner, then “Cancel All Documents.”

Wait a couple of seconds for the computer to delete the documents from the queue. Then, the printer should be ready again.

Jobs get stuck when documents are sent to the printer while it is turned off, or when there are issues with the printer itself and the documents are never printed. This could range from the printer being out of ink to a paper jam. If these instructions do not help, contact technical support.
