Programming the PAX A920 Pro

Please follow these instructions to set up your PAX A920 Pro PIN pad.

Depending on its battery level, it might need to charge before operating. Use the cable and its power brick to charge the device. The power button is located on the right side of the device.

Note: To properly use the PAX A920 with Artisan, we’ll need to reserve the PAX’s IP address and make it a static IP. Once you have completed the initial PAX set up steps below, please click here to learn how to reserve a static IP.

Initial Set Up Steps

1. On the “Welcome” screen, swipe up at the bottom of the screen. This will open a black screen with an arrow at the bottom left. Quickly tap three to four times on this arrow.

2. This opens up the password screen. Tap on the screen to activate the on-screen keyboard. Type pax9876@@ and then select “Enter.”

3. On the home screen, select the “PXRetailer” icon.

4. Tap on each corner of the screen as shown (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right).

5. Tap on the screen to activate the on-screen keyboard. Enter pax12345 as the password. Press the green checkmark on the keyboard to exit the password field, then select the “Enter” button on the screen.

6. In the “Setup Menu,” select “Host/ECR Communication.”

7. Make sure “USB” is checked (ethernet and serial should not be selected).

8. This returns you to the “Welcome” screen. Swipe up at the bottom of the screen and press 3-4 times quickly on the arrow. Tap on the screen to activate the keyboard. Enter the password pax9876@@

9. Tap on the “Settings” icon.

10. Enter pax9876@@ as the password.

11. Select “Network & Internet.”

12. Make sure “WiFi” is turned on (and “Ethernet” is turned off). Once connected to the WiFi, tap on it to expand its “Network Info“.

13. Write down its IP address.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The PIN Pad and computer must be on the same network. For example, if your computer is on an Ethernet connection and your PIN pad is connected through WiFi, it will not work.

14. Once you’ve set up the device in the PSCS portal, you’ll need to get the device’s parameters. First, select the “DC Direct” icon.

15. Click on “Get Parameters.”

16. “Confirm” to download the package. The device will reboot.

Reserve an IP Address

In order for the PIN Pad to work correctly with Artisan, its IP address needs to be static. We also need to reserve this IP address.  Click here to read the article on this topic.

A static IP address is a “fixed” address. It doesn’t change over time (but can be changed manually if needed). A static IP is suitable for situations that require devices (like PIN pads) to connect to a stable, unchanging address.
