Item Record Codes & Measures Tab

Items screen

Private Bar Code – This is normally automatically generated when you save the item record based on Numbering Schemes. This field is important to help keep your bar codes small on price labels printed from Artisan. There are a few circumstances when this field should not be used such as if you have multiple stores and these stores are running independently and are not connected with our Multi-Store feature, scheduled for Artisan version 4.2. The potential problem here would be if you transfer inventory from store to store and you want the bar codes to work in both stores.

Alternate Code – This area is used for an unlimited number of bar codes that this item may have. If you have an item that is available from multiple manufacturers, but is essentially the same, you can put all the bar codes here. Click Add, Edit, and Delete to manage this list.  When ringing up items in the Cash Register, and on many other screens, any of these codes will act just like the main Item Code and pull up this Item. You can use these for quick abbreviations.

The dimensions of the item are stored here on this tab. Width, Height, and Depth are here. The Shipping Weight is here too. This field is primarily used for Internet Store and it is also on the Internet Store tab.

  •  Width – The width of the item. This is used when pricing through a size-based pricing chart or can be used just for your reference.
  • Height – The height of the item. This is used when pricing through a size-based pricing chart or can be used just for your reference.
  • Depth – The depth of the item. This field is used for your reference only.
