Adding a Gift Card or Certificate That Was Purchased Online

Contents

Artisan makes it possible to account for gift cards that were created through your website. Please follow these instructions to learn more.

    Adding the GC into Artisan

    1. Open the Sales Screen and select the customer who is buying the gift card/certificate for someone else. Type the code “GC” onto the sale and enter the amount.

    2. Select “Finalize,” then choose the payment type that is used for your website, such as “Web Visa.” (Learn about creating “Payment Types” here).

    3. You may or may not be prompted for the GC Number, depending on your settings. If Artisan prompts you for the number, you can enter it (up to 19 characters long).

    4. If Artisan prompts for the recipient, enter that in for the person whom the gift card was purchased for (if you know that information).

    Redeeming GC Online

If the recipient redeems the gift card online, you will need to create a new sale in Artisan to consume the gift card.

    1. On the sale, enter the item as a non-sales item (ex. “Shopify GC“).

Note: To create a non-sales item, first create a category for the item that has the “Inventory Classification” set to “Other Non-Sales,” as shown.

Then, create the item (ex. Shopify GC) and select that category. Make sure the “Pricing Model” is “Fill in Price” at time of sale.

    2. Enter the price, and sell this item.

    3. For the “Payment Type,” select “Gift Card.”

This will take care of the transaction, but will not show a sale in Artisan. Instead, the sale details from Shopify should come over.

    Redeeming Online GC In-Store

If the recipient redeems the gift card in-store, you will need to void or consume the gift card in your online store itself. Since every online store platform is a little different, we recommend reaching out to their support staff for assistance.
